Everything has an end

Hey all, I want to inform you about some important changes on Verification-Bot .
On 01.September.2022 we will firstly end the support for the public bot.

Why are you doing this?

As some of you may have noticed, Discord has changed the system with the public bots a lot (verification, privileged gateway intents, ...). As of September, Discord is officially ending access to messages from verified bots on all servers. This means that all our prefix commands will no longer work from this day on.

Is there nothing, you can do to prevent this?

There are 2 options for us:
The first would be to continue giving us access to message content via content intent. However, Discord would most likely refuse this, since there is generally no reason for us to access it except for the commands. Discord only grants this access when message access is mandatory.

The second option would be to switch to slach commands and interactions. I've already started doing this in the past few months, but have never really had the time or interest to completely rewrite it. I am currently working full-time (8 hours a day) where I find absolutely no time to continue working with the bot.

I also asked some people I trust if they would like to take on this project. However, nobody was really interested in it. I don't want to give it to randoms.

What's next?

Good that you ask! I don't want our project to go under completely. So I decided to open the source code and make it available to anyone who is interested. It will be online on GitHub shortly. I'll notify you when the time comes.

Then you will have the chance to create your own build of our bot, host and manage it by yourself and more!

I currently use the bot on my server. What do I have to do now?

The bot will remain online and functional until the end of the month. After that it will go offline for the time being and will no longer work.
After that, you have the option of either continuing to use the bot with our open-source code or switching to another bot. If you use our code, you can continue to use the old commands.

What happens to the database?

We will keep the database with all content for the time being. However, for privacy reasons, this will not be available for self-hosted bots.

If you would like your data removed from our database, please send me a DM with the following information:

- Your server ID

- Your verification channel ID

- Your Verified Role ID

- Your Not Verified Role ID

If you only want certain information to be deleted, please only send me the information you want me to delete.

Should I kick the bot from my server?

This is your decision. You are welcome to keep the bot on your server. We may be planning some surprises!

It is not impossible that I will continue this project at some point or start a new one. Maybe you have ideas. Feel free to send us your suggestions for future bot projects. Maybe one day it will become reality!

What happens with the support-channels on the server?

The bot-related channels remain available to you. You are welcome to continue posting bot-related questions there even after the shutdown. You can also ask questions about hosting.

Please note, however, that we can no longer answer individual questions because we do not have access to your logs, databases, etc. on self-hosted bots. Please share us the specific information, if you need help.

Can I publish my own Bot-Build from your source-code?

Yes you can! You are welcome to continue using, developing and publishing our bot code. But please be fair and credit us as the original developer. You are also welcome to post your bot on relevant bot sites (like top.gg) under the above condition.

If you have built an interesting bot from our code, feel free to post it on our server and leave it for the community. (But only if you have taken our bot as a basis).

You are also welcome to fork our GitHub page and lend a hand yourself.

You have no limits!

Where can I find the code?

THANK YOU!

Last but not least we would like to say thank you to all our users for over 2 years. We are currently in use on over 5000 servers and are happy that this project was so well received by you.

Of course, this is a somewhat unfortunate ending. However, the open source option offers a lot for alternative developers to make the bot even better.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask on our server!

Maybe I add it here when it's someting important.

Until next time...
